"Dragonfly Treasure Box" - mixed-media box with metallic effects and texture
Are you ready to experiment and try something truly unexpected?
In this class, we’ll transform a simple wooden box into a dramatic, two-tone treasure — combining the colours of your choice inspired by one of Finnabair Decoupage Fiber Papers. You can try a classic top-to-bottom gradient or go bold and wrap our colours side to side around the box for an eye-catching, artistic twist. You’ll learn how to build rich textures with Art Extravagance Paper Paste and my favourite stencils, and how to use waxes over clear gesso as your main colouring medium — almost no acrylic paints this time! On the lid, the Decoupage Fiber Paper becomes a perfect stage for a composition of leaves, grungy frames, and mechanical dragonflies, while the metallic waxes bring everything together with luminous highlights.
This class is a great opportunity to explore texture, contrast, and alternative colouring techniques, while having fun and learning how to blend metallic finishes for a professional, polished look. All materials, embellishments, and art mediums are provided. The project is suitable for both beginners and experienced mixed-media artists.
